Customers will no longer have access to content on their public Share point website; images, text and pages that are hosted will disappear. What is SharePoint Online Public Websites feature in Office 365?
SharePoint was launched back in 2001 and is a browser-based content management platform designed to help users manage all their social-media for free, documents and content. Similar to WIX , Go Daddy and Office 365; SharePoint is used as a secure, collaborative Content Management System (CRM) where documents and files are stored, organized shared and hosted online. Share point users can access and make changes to their site from any device with a Web browser.
Are you an existing Office 365/SharePoint customer?
Microsoft has issued warnings across all accounts that will be affected. If you’re concerned this updated will affect you, be sure you check your Share Point pages for this message that appears on the top banner.
The Microsoft team commented on ‘SharePoint Stack Exchange’ Forum to explain why they are dissolving the feature…
“As part of the evolution of the Office 365 service, we periodically evaluate the capabilities of the service to make sure that we’re delivering the utmost value to customers. After careful consideration, we concluded that for public websites, Office 365 customers would be better served by third-party providers whose core competency is public websites. Therefore, we’ve made the difficult decision to discontinue the SharePoint Online Public Website feature so that we can focus our efforts and investments on delivering capabilities in Office 365 that will bring more value to our customers.” See More Here
